ASEAN Para Games 2015 Opening Ceremony: film

The film on screen celebrates the best moments of the past seven ASEAN Para Games. 140 members of Redeafination, Singapore’s hip hop dance group for the Deaf, dance to a film installation created by Associate Visual Directors Michael Larsson and Timothy Chan. The music is composed by Ceremony director Philip Tan, using sounds made by goal ball. The performance invites us to enjoy dance and music with the Deaf. On screen we also see individual deaf dancers being highlighted, they correspond to the dancers on stage. Emerging artist Timothy Chan, 25, created paintings (for which Michael mobilised as materials for this film) by running paint under his wheelchair tyres. There are also digital drawings are based on X-ray images of his body, to show there’s beauty inside all of us. Diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) aged five, Timothy has used a wheelchair since 13 years of age. He is also a top chess player, representing Singapore in the 5th ASEAN Para Games in Kuala Lumpur in 2009, and was Champion in the 4th and 9th National Disability League in 2009 and 2014 respectively.
