iGuide is a walking stick with smart capabilities that improves the quality of life of the visually impaired by helping them navigate, socialize and locate things. The walking stick has an automated wheel with hub motor controlled by the a push button and a grip button on the walking stick’s hand grip that steers and guides the user to the desired location, person or object as set on the iphone application. It makes use of GPS, IPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, 4G and RFiD capabilities on the iphone to provide information on location, route, people and objects. There is also a camera and infrared sensor on the walking stick for detecting obstacles in the way to prevent the user from having a collision. The walking stick and iphone application gives the visually impaired greater freedom and independence by allowing them to know where places, people or objects are and then taking them there which would typically be hard to do without the aid of a sighted person.
